The Bolivar-Hardeman County NAACP Youth Council held its monthly meeting on Sunday, September 6, 2026. The Youth Council meets on the first Sunday of every month. In person for the meeting were the vice-president and secretary, and through the convenience of technology, the president and vice-president were able to attend remotely.
Along with discussing general council business, the main focus was preparation for the council to attend the 80th Annual State Convention & Civil Rights Advocacy Conference, which will be held in Memphis, Tennessee September 24 – 26, 2026. The theme this year is “We the People.”
The student council leaders this year are Thilan Kimbrel, president; Kahlil Mosby, vice-president; Tahja Kearney, secretary; and Jakaria Ellis, treasurer. They were sworn in on Monday, June 29, 2026.

Youth Council Advisor Wanda Robinson has supported the council for many years. She enjoys working with the youth and learning from them
“I really enjoy working with our youth, because we need leaders, future leaders, we need to pass the torch. They really motivate me and we want to teach them about our history civil rights, human rights, voting because we had people to die so we have a right to vote,” said Robinson.
Robinson shared an important message she has for all people regardless of their political party.
“I really want to encourage everyone out there in the listening audience or you’re reading this to vote. If you are not registered to vote, get registered,” said Robinson. “If you don’t vote, you may say, ‘well my vote doesn’t count! Yes it does. Because, if you don’t vote, you’ve already voted, by not voting. So, it means so much. Think about our children’s future. When you vote, you’re coting for their future. Please vote!”
