For Ashley Ross, her prayer for a home school tutorial in Hardeman County was not quickly answered. As a Christian, Ashley knew to wait on the Lord and that her prayer, if it was His will, would be answered in His own time. Five years later, she received that blessing as the Hardeman County Homeschool Tutorial prepares to open fall 2026.
“I have prayed over this opportunity for over five years, and the Lord has opened doors and provided a building and a group of amazing teachers and staff for us to be able to begin the Hardeman County Homeschool Tutorial,” said Ms. Ross. “Our home school community has grown over the last five to six years in Hardeman County. We have had a Homeschool Hangout group that meets every other Friday for about seven years. Through this, I have learned that families need support and resources to help them through some of the academic side of homeschooling.”
The tutorial is designed to serve home school families of Hardeman and surrounding counties. The course offerings at the tutorial will provide hands-on and creative learning for children in Pre-K through twelfth grade. Subject offerings will include core studies for each grade in English, math, science, and history. Elective courses in agriculture, art, health/nutrition, and S.T.E.M. will be offered for each grade.

Although Ms. Ross is excited about the course offerings of the Hardeman County Homeschool Tutorial, what brings her the most joy is the approach the teachers will take in the classrooms when teaching the students.
“The tutorial is a Christ-centered environment that will put Christ in the center of all of the subjects we teach,” said Ms. Ross. “Our goal is for each student to have a better understanding of Christ and the subject matter that they were taught. We want them to have a love for learning and be able to take what they know and inspire others.”
Ms. Ross has been homeschooling for 12 years. She admits it has been overwhelming at times, but also one of the best decisions she and her husband, Robert, made for their children.
“I have a child who struggles with learning and because we homeschool, I have been able to give him the one-on-one learning opportunity and find different curriculum that has best suited his learning style. Homeschooling has opened up opportunities that go far beyond academics. We have been able to teach a Christ-centered education that we know has eternal value,” said Ms. Ross.
Through the tutorial, Ms. Ross wants to offer the support needed to home school families. She shared the Hardeman County Homeschool Tutorial will be led by a group of talented and gifted teachers and home school moms who have a long tenure in homeschooling. She noted, each teacher is either certified or has educational experience in their subject matter.

The tutorial will meet each week at Dixie Hills Baptist Church in Bolivar in classrooms, which are located inside off the church gym. Pre-K through sixth grade students will meet every Tuesday and seventh through twelfth grade students will meet every Thursday.
“Tutorial settings are made for parents to be able to drop off their children for the day. The tutorial teacher will teach on a subject matter for the week and send home daily assignments for the student to turn in the next week,” said Ms. Ross. “We will support the parents in home educating their children. It is set up where a parent can choose the subjects they want for their kids – they may choose one or they can choose all five classes. The classes will be one day a week where the student can be with their peers and the remainder of week, they will be home with their families. This also allows the flexibility of those in high school to maintain a job if they choose to do so.”
Ms. Ross stressed the goal for the tutorial is to provide a helpful resource to the families it serves. For now, there will be 15 students per class with the hope of eventually becoming a full tutorial allowing for more students per class.
