Johnny and Heather Moore both serve the Town of Hornsby as aldermen. Combined, they have lived in Hornsby a little more than 100 years with Johnny calling Hornsby home for 60 years and Heather calling the same for 42 years. For both of them, Hornsby is home and where they serve their community.
Johnny grew up in Hornsby and graduated from Bolivar Central High school in 1969, while Heather, who grew up between Middleton and Saulsbury, graduated from Middleton High School that same year. Neither ever learned if their paths ever crossed while they were both in high school. It was not until Johnny and Heather started working at TKE (formerly Dover) that the two Hardeman County natives finally met.
“We met at TKE (Dover) in 1983,” said Heather. “A coworker asked me out on a date. I declined. Another coworker asked me if I would be interested in going on a date with Johnny,” said Heather.
Johnny and Heather were married in 1984. They both continued working at Dover, Johnny for 39 years and Heather for 38 years.
In May 2023, Heather was appointed to the Hornsby board of alderman after Curtis Vandiver resigned to assume the position of mayor. She served in the position, completing the term and then officially ran for the office and was elected in November 2024.
Johnny ran for the position and was elected in November 2024. Their reasons for running for office are similar.
“I ran because of the need for aldermen with a desire to improve community,” said Johnny, whose area of responsibility is with fire department.
“I wanted to try and help improve services for the citizens of Hornsby,” said Heather, whose area of responsibility is with the water department.
They both love that Hornsby is a small town which has the feel of family closeness.
“Serving together gives us the opportunity to do things for our home town together,” they both agreed.
