A Hunter Education course will be offered at The Clays at Lone Oaks Farm on Saturday, March 21, 2026. The course will be taught by Hardeman County Game Warden Jacob Jones. The main goal of the course is to teach responsible hunting skills, which Warden Jones believes is essential for all people practicing the sport.
As game warden, a law enforcement officer, one of Jones’ responsibilities is enforcing hunting laws.
“It is required by law that anyone born after January 1, 1969, has completed a hunter education course,” said Jones. “Students will learn about firearm safety, wildlife laws, tree stand safety, basic shooting skills, wildlife management techniques, and general firearm and wildlife knowledge.”
The course is geared towards students nine years of age or older. No prior hunting experience is required or equipment is needed. And, one of the best parts about the course is it is free.
Jones is passionate about hunting. He believes it is an integral part of maintaining the natural resources of the state for future generations to enjoy. He also believes the people who attend the course will benefit through the knowledge and learned skills.
“Students will learn the proper ways to handle firearms in different scenarios. They will be prepared and learn how to stay within their own personal limitations while hunting,” said Jones. “They will learn the consequences that can occur if proper safety techniques are not followed while hunting. “
