In an unanimous vote of 6-0, the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) voted to rename the Nashville International Airport in honor of Dolly Parton. Governor Bill Lee made the proposal in August after the singer-songwriter, actress, businesswoman, and philanthropist passed away following a short battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

According to the MNAA, a name for the airport has not yet been determined.

“This vote represents the first step in a multifaceted process. In the coming months, we anticipate having more definitive plans to share regarding the next steps and implementation,” said the MNAA in a statement. “We are grateful for the tremendous support and enthusiasm from our community and Dolly’s fans around the world. We look forward to sharing additional details as plans are finalized.”
