Whitfield Headed to Blue Mountain Christian University for Golf

Bolivar Central High School’s (BCHS) Meredith Whitfield is heading to Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU). Not only will she continue her academic career, but she has committed to play golf for the university. Choosing to attend BMCU checked all the boxes for her academically, athletically, and spiritually.

“Knowing that I had the opportunity to further my education along with my athletic career all while being surrounded by a Christ-centered program was a huge factor! Nothing would be possible without Christ! All glory to God,” said Meredith, who could barely put into words the excitement she has at being able to play golf at the collegiate level. “It means so much, it is so hard to put into words! Getting to do something I love while it is also paying for my education is truly a dream come true!”

Meredith has played golf for six years. She was looking for something new and was attracted to the sport because of its personal nature.

“Golf is you vs. yourself. I am my biggest critic and being able to play by myself and better myself keeps me going,” said Meredith.

When she moved into high school, Meredith came under the coaching of Jordan Stack. Over the years, he has seen growth in her golf skills, which he believes will be an asset to the BMCU golf team.

“Meredith has grown in all aspects of golf. She has grown the most as a ball striker and iron play. She has lowered her scoring average in four years close to 20 strokes,” said Coach Stack. “She is such a great student athlete. Meredith works hard in the classroom as well as the course. She has a 4.0 GPA and has taken many dual credit courses. Meredith will for sure fit right in with her positive attitude and willingness to work.”

Meredith has enjoyed a lot of personal growth in the sport and on the golf course. She has played in numerous tournaments while in high school. Meredith believes that was the perfect arena for honing her golf skills from the coaching she received.

“Playing in tournaments and truly learning my game the past four years of high school has taught me that hard work does pay off! Putting my all into something and seeing results is a feeling that can’t be beaten and it makes me want to continue to put my all into golf the next four years in college,” said Meredith, who credits many for her accomplishments. “It is hard to give credit to just one person because I truly have the best support system. My mom and dad are there for me every step of the way. From keeping me hydrated on the course to just a quick smile for me after a good shot, makes me know they are so proud. My grandparents are the same way. I know they would all do anything to help me. Coach Stack has been there since the start of my freshman year watching me grow into a stronger golfer and he never fails to let me know how proud he is and I’m so thankful to have had him as a coach.”

Meredith is leaving BCHS feeling extremely proud of her years playing high school golf. She does not take for granted the opportunity she has had to play a sport, which she absolutely loves!

“I am so thankful to have the opportunity to do something I love. Not everyone gets opportunities like I did,” said Meredith. “I am so proud of making it through my high school career and doing it all with a smile. It was a privilege to get to grow as a high school golfer and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!”

Meredith is ready for the next step of playing for BMCU. She is looking forward to being a part of a new team, being guided by the coaching staff, and over all experience of being a college student. She believes her experience playing golf has not only prepared her athletically, but also academically.

“Golf has taught me far more than just how to compete—it has shaped my work ethic, discipline, and ability to stay focused under pressure. Committing to Blue Mountain Christian University means joining a program that values both athletic excellence and personal growth,” said Meredith. “I’m excited to continue developing my skills on the course while also growing academically and spiritually at BMCU. I’m especially motivated by the opportunity to be part of a team that emphasizes integrity, leadership, and commitment, and I’m eager to contribute positively to the program and represent the university. I can’t wait to see what the future as a Topper holds!”

Making that move six years ago, just because she was looking for something new and different to do was one of the best decisions Meredith ever made. The journey has not been easy, but it has been a good one. She encourages young golfers who are coming behind her and hopes she can be an inspiration.

“Ride the high of that one good shot. It will take you far and keep you coming back! It won’t always be easy and that’s what makes it fun because when you do have that one good shot, you see the hard work paying off,” said Meredith.

As a coach, it is hard to see a star athlete leave, but Coach Stack is happy for the opportunities, which lay ahead for Meredith.

“I hope Meredith continues to grow in the game, gets her degree, and follows her goal of becoming a teacher. She will be a great role model for young students when she becomes a teacher,” said Coach Stack.

Coach Stack shared some last words for Meredith.

“Go out and do great things! BCHS and the Stacks are very proud of you,” said Coach Stack.
