Around this time of year, Nikki Williams begins preparing for the annual Mid-South Toys for Tots campaign, which benefits families across that area and in Hardeman County. Williams has volunteered with the non-profit organization for 20 years, 13 as a volunteer and seven as assistant coordinator. She enjoys helping people and Toys for Tots has given her that opportunity.
“Helping less fortunate families with Christmas has been a blessing to me. I’ve seen families where they have nothing to give their children for Christmas and when given toys from us, they cried and were very appreciative of the gifts. They expressed how hard it was just to provide food. So, from that point on, I have been encouraged to go hard for families because we don’t know if or when we’ll be in that same situation,” said Williams, who marked her twentieth year with Toys for Tots on September 15, 2026.

Applications are now being accepted online only from families that would like to be recipients of the Toys for Tots donations the organization hopes to receive from generous sponsors – businesses to individuals. The campaign serves children newborn to twelve years old. The application deadline is Saturday, October 31, 2026, at midnight.
“We prepare the warehouse to receive donations. Calls are made, sponsors are requested and events are planned to help raise funds to purchase toys for the children,” said Williams. “Mid-South Toys for Tots can be supported by giving monetary donations as a sponsor or by being a business, organization, or group that collects new toys or hosting or a fundraiser for less fortunate families in this area.”

Williams noted that donations people designate for Hardeman County benefit families in the county. Received donations are stored in a warehouse in Memphis to be sorted until distribution to the children. That moment is one that truly warms her heart.
“Just being able to help someone is a blessing within itself. Hugs from the children is what keeps me going. It’s so heartwarming. Makes me feel like a superhero,” said Williams. “I would encourage others to be involved because it helps you realize just how blessed you are and thankful that God allowed it to be so.”

Williams encourages everyone to be a blessing to others by donating toys, money, or time to Mid-South Toys for Tots this Christmas season.
“When there’s an event that is hosted by Mid-South Toys for Tots, please support it. The funds are used to purchase toys for this area,” said Williams. “I also want to make sure I thank Vickie Walton from the Hardeman County Chamber of Commerce for assisting me this year. It is very much appreciated. And I want to thank Hardeman County for helping me serve West TN and Hardeman County for 20 years!”

Donations for Mid-South Toys for Tots Christmas 2026 campaign are being accepted through Tuesday, December 15, 2026.
