Jane Mayfield loved animals so much she was a weekly volunteer at the Hardeman Adoptable Animals (HAA) in Bolivar. She was a mother to two human children and three furry barking ones. After she passed away in November 2025, Jane’s family wanted to honor her legacy and love of animals, so they created an annual memorial fundraiser for the HAA.

“When she passed, we made a donation in her honor of $1,500 and asked for people to donate to them [HAA] in lieu of flowers. We raised quite a bit last year,” said Nikki Mayfield, Jane’s daughter-in-law. “Through the memorial fundraiser, we hope to raise enough money and receive needed supplies for HAA.”

Along with monetary donations, the Mayfields are asking people to donate the following items:

The memorial is very personal to Nikki and a special gesture to Jane to show her appreciation for the positive impact she had on her life.

“Mrs. Jane was the kindest and most loving and generous woman I ever met. I’m thankful I was able to know and love her. She changed my life and made me a better person,” said Nikki. “When we knew the days were coming to an end, her and I had a conversation. I told her I wanted to do something in her memory when she passed. I told her my plan and she cried and loved the idea that she could continue to help the animals.”

Jane started volunteering at the HAA soon after her husband, Danny Mayfield, passed away from cancer on January 4, 2020.

“She had three dogs; one she slowly took over from my husband. Then for Mother’s Day, we gifted her a dachshund puppy. Before we could get that puppy, she rescued a dog from the HAA. So, she went from no dogs to three, in a short time. She loved doing the volunteer work and loved their Friday lunchtime margaritas the volunteers would do on Fridays; probably a little more,” laughed Nikki.

Donations for this year’s memorial fundraiser for the HAA will be accepted through Sunday, November 1, 2026, Nikki would like to deliver all donations on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, which is the anniversary of Jane’s passing.

“My goal is to do this every year, until I retire and then I will take Mrs. Jane’s place as a volunteer at HAA,” said Nikki. “We want to support the pets who are still waiting for their forever homes.”
